Remove LinkWithin from Home Page (Blogger)

Remove Linkwithin from home page

I talked about LinkWithin a little bit before in a previous DIY post. It’s a great widget to add for Blogger. The problem that many people have with it, though, is that the homepage looks rather cluttered with all of those boxes for every post. It just looks more streamlined when you don’t have to scroll past a linkwithin section after every post. So today, we are going to go over how to remove those linkwithin boxes just from your home page and have it still display on the individual posts.

This tutorial will only cover how to do this in Blogger. If you want this for WordPress, I would suggest getting a different related posts widget (such as YARPP). I actually found an easy way to do this tutorial so that you don’t have to dive into your HTML and make changes. There are just a couple steps you need to make.

1. Remove Your LinkWithin Gadget

Wait…completely? Yep! The only way we can skip editing your template, is by starting over from the beginning. So, once you go to Blogger > Layout and remove your LinkWithin gadget, go to and fill in that form like you did before.

2. Re-add LinkWithin

Once you have the form filled out, click the Get Widget button. Then at the top of the next page click the Install Widget link.

3. Modify LinkWithin Template

LinkWithin has actually made this very easy for us by giving us a section where we can quickly modify the template widget before it goes in! Before you click the Add Widget button, click on the drop down for Edit Template. You should see this code:

All we have to do is add in an if statement. Just delete the code that you have in that template box and replace it with this:

And you’re done! Just give LinkWithin some time to reacquaint itself with your blog. Quick and easy right? =)

  1. Thanks for your great post. I just added linkwithin widget for my blogger blog and its showing it in everywhere, I was about to gave up. But your post save me.
    Thanks again :)

  2. Hello! Unfortunately, your advice works ONLY IF you had widget with the first installation! I did not have, so I can not remove it completely from my entire blog! If I can not edit it or move and remove it, then I don’t need it! Please, help me to get rid of it!

    1. Hi Natalie, yes you would have to remove it from your blog and re-add it. Don’t worry about that though. It make take a little bit for linkwithin to crawl back through your site, but it will go back to the way it was, just not on the home page. You can remove the gadget on your Layout page. Just click the edit link on the LinkWithin box and remove it.

  3. Hi, I have installed and customised linkwithin on my blog using the advice on this blog ( and now I am trying to follow your advice to hide them on my homepage but it doesn’t work at all. It seems to disappear everywhere even on my blogpost. Do you have any advice ? I spent three hours trying different sort of advice but without success. Thank you for your help.

    1. Try removing and re-adding it again, but in the template box put this:

  4. So many thanks :) I thought this widget would look cool, instead (due mostly to my bad photography) it was cluttered and untidy and didn’t do much for the appearance and slowed the page down. THANKS THANKS THANKS. I’ve spent so much time reading instruction …. but yours was successful and easy. IE couldn’t scroll to C&P the code so had to use Firefox, probably a glitch on my browser.

  5. Excellent post. I used to be checking constantly this weblog and I aam inspired!

Extremely useful information specifically the remaining section :
) I deal withh such information much. I was seeking this certain info for a very lengthy
time. Thanks and best of luck.

  6. I just wanted to say thanks for this great post. It took me two years to find it! ☺ Ijust followed your instructions, and it worked like charm! My homepage looks so much cleaner now. I just shared this information on Pinterest, too.

  7. Thanks for the article. Before reading it I had on my blog LinkWithin but it disappeared one day. All efforts to reinstall it are abortive. My question is can Google deliberately take this widget from my blog? And why after disappeance I couldn’t reinstall?

  8. I followed all the instructions here and LinkWithin is still not working on my blog… I have tried everything I can find and I cannot get this to work. I had it there at one time and it disappeared. I have removed it and tried adding it again using these instructions. I tried just using the widget but that didn’t lead anywhere so I tried again by copying the text and adding the gadget and pasting it in there… Still no success…
    What am I doing wrong??
